What is the MC2STEM High School?
In the 2008-2009 academic year CMSD will open the first incubator STEM school in
Cleveland housed on a STEM industry corporate campus. This innovative institution
will provide students with a dynamic real-world learning environment with a foundation
of rigorous STEM based academic principles.
What are the unique features of the school?
Besides residing within an industry campus MC2 STEM will provide the
students access to internships and apprenticeship opportunities to gain first -hand
experience in specific professions to assist with career planning decisions for
what to do after graduation. The STEM school will also utilize a year round academic
calendar that more closely resembles a typical business calendar. This will facilitate
a more productive learning environment and reinforce to our students what they can
expect from “work life”.
The STEM school is also partnering with institutions of higher education allowing
our seniors to take their senior year course load on a college campus while simultaneously
earning college credits towards their freshman year. This unique opportunity will
provide for a seamless transition from high school to college or the workforce.
Where will the school be located?
The corporate and collegial communities will be home to the MC2 STEM
High School. Students will have embedded experiences on the campuses of local STEM
related industries and on college and university campuses. Additionally, cultural
institutions and community organizations will serve as a learning lab for students
during extended and out of school time.
MC2 STEM High School will be located at GE Nela Park. The school building
is currently under construction and students are currently attending school at the
Great Lakes Science Center.
How will students be recruited?
Enrollment is opened to anyone interested. Although “testing in” will not be required,
consideration will be given to students who show an aptitude and significant interest
in the STEM disciplines. As a regional high school, 25% of the student seats will
be available to students living outside of Cleveland.
How do students apply to the MC2STEM High School?
