What is the MC2STEM High School?

The MC2STEM High School embeds each grade level into a different STEM industry partner. Students will be engaged by a dynamic, rigorous curriculum and project-based learning environment that will prepare them for the 21st century global economy. Request more information about this High School.

During the 2008-2009 academic year MC2STEM High School opened as the first H.B 119 STEM School of Ohio, and the first incubator STEM School in Cleveland. Initially, MC2STEM High School was housed at the Great Lakes Science Center where students and staff were able to integrate curriculum and instruction with science center exhibits. On February 9, 2009 MC2STEM High School became the first school of its kind to be housed on a STEM industry corporate campus at GE Lighting's Nela Park. Providing students with a dynamic real-world learning environment, and the human capital support of industry professionals. This momentous occasion was celebrated with community leaders and supporters during the grand opening on February 20, 2009. See images in our photo gallery.

What are the unique features of the school?
Besides residing within an industry campus MC2 STEM will provide the students access to internships and apprenticeship opportunities to gain first-hand experience in specific professions to assist with career planning decisions for what to do after graduation. The STEM school will also utilize a year round academic calendar that more closely resembles a typical business calendar. This will facilitate a more productive learning environment and reinforce to our students what they can expect from “work life”.

The STEM school is also partnering with institutions of higher education allowing our seniors to take their senior year course load on a college campus while simultaneously earning college credits towards their freshman year. This unique opportunity will provide for a seamless transition from High School to college or the workforce.

Where is the school located?

In 2009 GE Nela Park became an embedded campus and located students in a newly renovated LEED certified building.

In August 2010 the Great Lakes Science Center became home to the 9th grade campus for MC2 STEM high school. See the press release and photos here.

The 3rd and 4th year site will be temporarily house on the Campus of Health Careers. Check back here for permanent location!

How do students apply to the MC2STEM High School?
Enrollment is opened to anyone interested. Although “testing in” will not be required, consideration will be given to students who show an aptitude and significant interest in the STEM disciplines. As a regional High School, 25% of the student seats will be available to students living outside of Cleveland. Families interested in receiving more information and students interested in applying to MC2STEM High School can complete an on line application.
